This is a bit of an ethical grey area, I feel. Here are the guidelines I've decided upon after a lot of consideration:
I was a teenage artist in this era myself, and while I genuinely love and appreciate "cringey" or heavily flawed art, I understand that many people are embarrassed by it. Another problem is that it's disturbingly easy to track down someone based on their childhood art posts, especially if they continued to make art as they grew up.
That said, I feel it's appropriate to archive adoptables and other graphics that were posted with the intent to distribute them. If I have a source, I'll credit the artist with whatever name is used on the archived website and link to the Wayback Machine version of the site unless the website is worryingly personal.
I may archive gallery art if...
...in which case, I will post a few sample images and link to the original website as archived by the Wayback Machine.
Why do I archive kaoani and other Japanese web sozai?
These were usually posted with usage guidelines that specifically forbid redistribution, it's true. However, the unfortunate reality is that a lot of these materials found their way to the English speaking web without any kind of attribution. I feel the best way to honor these creators is to clearly and publicly credit them in English.
Nothing I post is intended for redistribution. Please do not remove anything you see here from its context.

NOTE: I am able to read and understand Japanese, but I'm not good at writing/speaking. My language skills are rusty and I can't express myself properly in conversation, but I will try my best!
